Weekends Are Good

We had a busy weekend. Yesterday we drove out to Ontario, it was gorgeous. Living in the prairies means that seeing any kind of actual terrain aside from flat grasslands gets me all excited. There are rocks in Ontario, and hills. We visited at our friend's parents place. They live out in the wilderness by Lake of the Woods in a gorgeous home that they built themselves, so we did some exploring and poking around. Took lots of beautiful pictures and came home tired but happy at the end of the night.

This morning we opted to skip church and have a lazy morning. We got up and moving around twn thirty and made a huge Sunday brunch which we ate as a family at our new table. I did all the prep work (including making the pancake batter from scratch) and set the table, while Chuck cooked the bacon, eggs, pancakes, and hashbrowns. Of course we had syrup and fresh strawberries and bananas with our pancakes. And a glass of blueberry juice. I added a tiny amount of it to Skyler's water in his sippy and he went nuts drinking it as though it would disappear if he didn't gulp it down in time.

Skyler's still doing amazing with the potty, he used it after his breakfast this morning. We've been keeping up with it every day, and he has no complaints. He actually claps each time I sit him on it. Oh and he pees in it now too. We're just working on the sign for potty now so he can tell me when he needs to go. Oddly enough I use potty time to work on other things. While he's on the potty we brush his teeth, and learn about the different body parts (singing head, shoulders, knees & toes etc) and we comb his hair. The other day I gave him a faux hawk. Haha. Honestly though he's spoiling me with the lack of dirty diapers lately. I love it. He also sleeps through the night and freely gives hugs and kisses, along with big happy smiles. I couldn't ask for a better toddler.

I hope you all are enjoying the weekend as much as I have been.

(P.S. Doesn't he look like a big boy in the last picture?? Where did my baby go?)

Sounds like you had an excellent weekend. That is fantastic that Sky is consistently using his potty! He does look so grown up in the last picture.

I got Laney to use her potty seat twice last week -- only because she woke up completely dry and we rushed straight to the bathroom where I read to her for several minutes before she would go.

Hey! Those pictures do look beautiful. I am from WA state and think i was the only person who had never been to canada. In reply to your question, i tried to be calm even though i wanted to cry and yell. I just sat her down and had her explain the situation and what happened- i asked a milllion questions cuz i wanted to know exactly what happened when i talked to her teacher. With Kylah we have to be very careful not to mae it a big deal, if we freak out or feel sad then she will and feel sorry for herself, etc. I talked to her abuout how everyones eyes are diferent- colors, glasses. i didn't want to lie to her about it but i know she is not quite ready to know everything, so i took off my glasses and told her that i can't see good without my glasses. i described something in her room that was really blurry to me. Then i told her that when people can't see good they go to the doctor and he finds glasses for them that help them see, like me. I told her that her doctor hadn't found any glasses that would help her eyes see better but that maybe when she is older they will (maybe there will be some new surgery or something!) but for now there wasn't any. I then told her that God gave special eyes to her because he knew that SHE would be srong and brave and smart with those special eyes. Then i told her that sometimes people are mean and rude and that when people say mean or rude things to us we need to try to not care. I told her i didn't want her to feel sorry for herself because she could, can, and will be able to do anything she wants. She can do anything. Later my husband told her what she needed to do when people said mean things to her and not to ever let anyone be like that to her. I e-mail her teacher and explained the situation to her since her teacher was gone Friday. I just tried to not make a big deal about it but at the same time let her know that its not okay for people to say things like that. I know that kids are like that but, as i explained to her teacher, this was very upsetting because it was specifically making fun of her disability and not just being mean in general. It was so hard to hear it just broke my heart!

Skylar is getting so big! And handsome as ever!

I've been keeping up on the happenings in your life lately, just haven't been commenting much. But I wanted to say I'm so impressed with Skylar's continued progress and the wonderful support and guidance you give him ;)
